Slab Sculpture Reflection
1. What are the good / strong parts of your project? What is done well? Why?
The good/strong parts of my sculpture would be the flowers and leaves drawn on the sides because I don't normally pay close attention to detail but I actually tried with those.
2. What do you think you could have done better on this project? Why?
I could have made the vessel part of the sculpture a little better instead of just making a burrito because it might not hold water the best.
3. Describe the attributes of your theme / unity: What is the design like? Why?
The attributes of my theme/unity would be the flowers and leaves and the saying going around the bottom. These add to the theme of spring. The design is simple flowers and leaves with "April showers bring May flowers" because it's meant to be a flower holder.
4. Describe the form of your sculpture: what kind of 3-D shape does it have (cylindrical, spherical,
egg-like, bumpy, smooth)? Why?
The form of my sculpture is flat on the bottom with cylinders coming off of it because it needs a base and the part to hold the flowers and water.
5. What inspired you to make your design this way? What is the primary meaning of your
design? How did you do this? Why did you do it that way?
It was a nice day outside. The primary meaning of the design is Spring and nature. I did this by making slab flowers, drawing on the side, and putting a saying at the bottom because I thought it would make a good design for a flower holder.
6. Metacognate: What did you learn from this project that you could apply to others? What lessons could be applied to life in general? Why?
Pay more attention to detail for designs, and enjoy making things more beautiful in life because it brightens not only your own world but other's too.
EXCEEDING:
7. Evaluate the design of your sculpture: Why did you do it the way you did? Was it planned? What is by chance? Did your final project look the way you thought it would in the
beginning? Why or why not? Elaborate on this process...
I did the design the way I did so I could have flowers on it and be able to put flowers and water in the cylinders. It was not planned, I just threw it together and got the designs put on. The form of the cylinders was by chance, I was just messing around. I didn't have a plan for how it would looked but I did like the way it turned out because it's not something I normally make.
8. Is this a worthwhile project that Purdy should continue to use? What should Mr.
Purdy do to improve this project for the future? Why?
I thought it was a worthwhile project but the expectations for exceeding mixed with the time constraints were(was?) very unfavorable. It's hard to create something worthwhile and fun to look at/create when you are so cramped on time and have to worry about making other vessels to keep up with exceeding and other projects.
